Frequently Asked Questions
What is nuevafantasia?
We are an international packager. We buy and sell rights of science fiction and fantasy contents in different formats.
Is nuevafantasia a literary agency?
We are currently doing the same work that would be expected from a literary agency, in the sense that we negotiate the rights sale with different publishing houses and give them the opportunity to evaluate the work from new talents that we have previously identified and analyzed thoroughly. However, nuevafantasia is much more than a literary agency.
Why is nuevafantasia much more than a literary agency?
We do not constrain our activities to the publishing sector. Sometimes, the reader of a book is ultimately the same person that expects enthusiastically for the movie to come out or that plays videogames related to certain saga. On the other hand, there are licenses that only make sense in one format, as their originality is somehow linked to the format displayed.
We are responsible of finding the right partner for each product, always in the field of science fiction and fantasy. At the same time, we are the guardians of high-quality in the projects we participate. We do not want poor videogames made in a rush. We want to be proud of the products we promote. Quality must always be in the first place.
In what sense does nuevafantasia provide original content?
Our contents are bound to be original because we do not promote fantasy works related to witches, dragons, vampires, knights, elphs or orcs. We do something else. We want to be original, but still do epic fantasy. Niunkabin is a good example of that.
What is Niunkabin?
Niunkabin is the name of the first fantasy saga that we are promoting. This is just our first project, but there are many more to come. However, we already believe that this saga has the potential to create a real impact on the market, based on our market surveys and readers’ tests.
If there aren’t wizards, dragons or vampires in Niunkabin, but it is still full of fantasy and magic… then, what’s in it?
In this book you will find the same kind of magic that you can find in Peter Pan: everlasting fantasy along with an unforgettable story. Are there witches, elphs, orcs, vampires, wizards or dragons in Peter Pan? No, but it is still full of magic… right? To understand exactly the scope of Niunkabin: Wonderous Worlds, you have to read it!
Who is the author of Niunkabin: Wonderous Worlds?
His name is I.R.Armkis. He had always felt capable of creating a great fantasy saga, but never dared to prove it. Eventually, the right moment arrived and the words came alive.
When we read his book, we knew that it was exactly what nuevafantasia was looking for. We shared with the author the same passion for the gender and the views about the potential of this story. For this reason, he entrusted us with the original manuscript of Niunkabin: Wonderous Worlds.
What has been nuevafantasia’s role with regards to Niunkabin?
Niunkabin: Wonderous Worlds was initially conceived in 2004, although the book was not fully developed until 2009. The original manuscript was finished in June and delivered to us in July.
Since then, we have coordinated several readers’ tests as well as literary evaluation by experts in the field of fantasy literature. The author has devoted several months to revising the original text with our guidance.
Regarding promotional activities, we attended the Frankfurt Book Fair in October 2009 and have been in touch with important international publishing houses since then.
The editing process and translations will start early in 2010.
When will the book be published? Are international release dates available?
Our estimate is that the book will be published by oct. 2010/ march. 2011. International release dates will vary depending on the country and translation timings.
How many books are going to be in Niunkabin’s epic fantasy saga?
It is an ambitious saga composed of five books. The author is currently working in the second book and has the big picture of the whole saga in his mind. However, it is important to note the following:
Even though each of the five books will be part of a great saga, its endings always provide a good conclusion to the stories. They invite the reader to be eager for more, but never leave him unsatisfied by not delivering a good ending.
What is the target reader for the book Niunkabin: Wonderous Worlds?
The original book is conveived as a novel for readers aged 13 and older.
Although the genre has a perfect fit for the youth, in our readers’ tests we have discovered that the book was able to generate as much enthusiasm in young readers as in older readers. Whereas young readers feel appealed by its lavish use of imagination, the more mature reader cannot fail to be indifferent to the moral undercurrent hidden within these pages, nor by the astrophysical phenomena governing the laws of Niunkabin.
Why are there 2 different types of cover for the original book?
For the original book, we have suggested a cover that is potentially appealing to readers of all ages (13 and older), as a consequence of the results of our readers’ tests. However, some publishers prefer to use a cover that targets specifically young readers (13-20), for two reasons:
i) it has a better fit in their catalogue;
ii) young readers are the more important group age for this kind of content.
For this reason, we have included an alternate cover for the original book. In the end, the cover will depend on the publisher and the local specificities of each country.
How can the book be adapted for children or for comic book readers?
Some of the readers that have participated in our tests, who have children below 12 years-old, enthusiastically suggested that we adapted the book for children. They wanted to speak about Niunkabin with their childs! In fact, the story can be easily adapted for kids, according to experts in the field.
At the same time, other readers believe that the amazing worlds and storyline of Niunkabin would be colourful and impressive in a comic book.
We are already working in both ideas, although the kids version and the comic book version will not be released at the same time as the original book. We believe that the readers of the original book like to imagine the characters by themselves, so the story must be published in the first place as a novel.
